Serial verification service

Please enter your serial number below to verify the authenticity of your Infinite Noise TRNG’s FT240X usb chip.

You will then get the original serial number from FTDI and the option to register your device to a pseudonym. Please see the FAQ why this is important.

You can read out the device’s serial number with following command:

$ infnoise --list-devices
Device: 0, Manufacturer: 13-37.org, Description: Infinite Noise TRNG, Serial: 1337-ABCDEFGH

It should match the one imprinted on the security seal – but has the 1337- prefix to avoid any collisions with FTDI’s “unique” serial numbers from other FT240 based devices. The form accepts input with or without the prefix.

If you’re worried about the content of the report. It contains:

  • FTDI’s serial number
  • the production/testing date
  • EEPROM configurations to restore FTDI’s or 13-37.org’s serial number

Any statistical data about the performance of each individual device has been deleted right after the test passed. Failed tests are actually kept, so we can see what went wrong.

Please note: The purpose of this service is to make the final production testing as transparent as it can be.
Verifying the serial number does not add any extra security, as there are no ways to effectively change the device’s behavior without the driver recognizing it. Even if someone finds a way, he will surely retain the serial.

As long as the driver accepts the device input – and you have verified the drivers integrity – its all fine!
